Hey guys try making one of these comics

This site is fun guys.  You can make your own comic strip by clicking and then adding in your speech.  I thought CB and RB might enjoy having a go.  When you have finished you could email it to your school email.  Then we can place these on your class blog.
Looking forward to seeing some comic strips.
To place in a blog, print screen into word, then crop and enlarge, copy and paste into paint programme and save.  They can then be uploaded into a blog or web page as a picture.

Kiwikids present their "Truth about Brussels Sprouts

We read an article in a School Journal about Brussels Sprouts. The Jellyfish reading group decided to research what our class thought about them.

We asked how many people like them, how many people didn’t like them and how many people had never tried them. Look at our graph.

We interviewed some children and this is what they had to say.
J.S said that she’s not a big fan of Brussels Sprouts. “They taste disgusting when they go down my throat!

M.W. said that Brussels Sprouts are tasty and healthy. It has a nice hot saucy taste.

B.L. said she hates Brussel Sprouts! Why? Because they taste disgusting and weird.

I.L. said he hates Brussels Sprouts because they are disgusting and green.

Water Cycle Drama

In our groups we used drama to show our understanding of the Water Cycle. We had lots of fun moving our bodies in different ways to show movements of water or height of mountains. We took video clips of each other so that we could think of ways we might improve next time. We know we will definitely look at ways to improve our videoing skills next term! Please look at our Voicethread and click on our avatars to hear whats we had to say.

Water in 3 States

We used Glogster to make a poster. We chose pictures about water as ice, liquid and gas. Then we put our voices on using the Easispeak microphone.
We thought about colours and added our sounds to our poster. We hope you enjoy it.

Wall Wisher Water Conservation

I wonder how many different ways you can think of to conserve water? See if you can add a sticky note to our WallWisher. Thanks for the great idea Mrs A.

More fun with Statistics using On-Line graphing tools

Today, the fantastic Kiwikids Maths class had more fun with statistics. We discovered an awful lot about a packet of lollipops. This included: which was the most common shape of lollipop, what was the most popular lollipop flavour, and what was the most common colour of lollipop found in one packet. YES! We did get to eat one too. It was such a busy maths lesson. My challenge for you is to look at the information in the graphs and make statements about what you have found out. e.g. What is the least favourite flavour in our class? What do you notice about the number of shapes we found in the packet? How many different things can you tell me? I'd love to hear about what you've learned.

Fun Statistics with Smarties.

The Kiwikids Maths Class had an exciting maths lesson on Statistics. Our inquiry was: What is the most common colour in a small pack of 'Smarties'.
We each moved the lollies into a bar graph on paper and found that each group had different results. Mrs R asked us to find out: What was the most common colour? What was the least common colour? How many Smarties did our pack have altogether? How many colours in our box? Look at our graph can you read which colour was the most common colour across the whole class?

Yummy, we got to eat them all at the end.

Rhythm Patterns in Music

Room 10 have been learning about rhythm patterns in music.  We used words about water: plip, spitting, drop, pitter patter, splish splash and whoosh to show different ostinati patterns and laid one over the other to create texture.  Read our comments to hear how we reflected on our practice performance and what we think we could improve on next time.

Book Week Buddies

In the first week of term 2, it was BOOK WEEK! Room 10 had a great time with our buddy class Room 17. With a focus on New Zealand authors, we chose to share the book "As Kuku Slept" by Erin Devlin. Although the story is fiction, it is based on the plight of the Kereru which is now an endangered bird species in New Zealand due to pests like possums, rats and stoats. Erin Devlin makes puppets and we decided to create our own versions of a range of native birds and possums and had so much doing it. We thoroughly recommend this book to everyone. Get a copy from your library and read the story and get the facts! We hope you like our slideshow.

Water Words

To begin our unit on Water Conservation we created words about water. We learned about Onomatopoeia and the sounds water makes. For homework we made our words. Some of us used the computer and some designed them free-hand. We enjoyed it so much that we all used "Word Art" in the classroom to create a lot more. We think they look great on our "Waterfall of Words" display in our room. Can you think of any more?

Volcanic Eruption in Iceland

This eruption has caused lots of problems for air travel because of the ash in the air. My son Jonny couldn't fly out to England and Europe on Sunday because of it.
Do you know anyone who couldn't travel? Where were they going or coming home from?

We are going to be friends.

In Term One we learned how to be responsible and what's special about friendship.
We have learned alot about what friendship means to us. Along our Road to Responsibility we learned to take digital photographs, create portraits, design and sign our own class Treaty and Graffiti our names. We traced around our side profile to make shadow pictures. It was surpising how easy it was to work out who was who. Some of speech bubbles said nice things about frienship.
